THIRTY years ago, nobody would have imagined that information technology would undergo tremendous changes.
Within a short duration of time a lot of new inventions, new technologies, new peripherals and new ideas have been created that are based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Now, one can see that information technology is converging with every other field to create new paradigms.
ICT is not merely software development as many people think. It contributes to a lot more, from medical related fields to space exploration.
At the Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST), the evolution of technology is closely monitored.
AIMST not only introduces theory but also exposes students to the real scenarios of ICT.
AIMST’s degree programmes in Computer Science and Information Technology are designed to meet the challenges in the current trend of ICT.
Degree in Computer Science, which has three specialisations, namely, software engineering, networking and multimedia, is blended with engineering background so that students will get first-hand exposure in the areas.
Three degree programmes in Information Technology are also offered at AIMST. They are Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) (Multimedia Systems), Bachelor Information Technology (Hons) (Information Systems) and Bachelor Information Technology (Management).
The degree courses are taught with the aim of producing quality knowledge workers in the area of information and communication technology.
This is further supported with the MSC initiative and the proliferation of MSC-status companies which has created a need in the ICT field.
AIMST is also offering a new diploma programme from April 2007.
The Diploma in Computer Networking offers students the opportunity to experience the rapid development of networking technologies.
Currently, the degree programmes are offered twice a year, with intakes in April and September.
Application forms are available at www.aimst. edu.
